Responsibilities & Services

The Public Works Department maintains the County’s critical infrastructure. This includes our roads, bridges, buildings, land, vehicles, and heavy equipment. The Department is comprised of two major divisions:
  • Roads - The Roads Division is responsible for maintaining over 450 miles of roadway and 39 bridges or crossings in Caroline County.  The Division's work includes routine maintenance, line striping, mowing shoulders, repairing and replacing bridges, installing and replacing signs, and other safety improvements.
  • Facilities - The Facilities Division is responsible for solid waste, recycling, building maintenance, and utilities.  If you need to report a maintenance issue regarding a County building, please use the Citizen Request Tracker.
The Department also includes the Central Shop, where County and allied agency vehicles are maintained, and administrative offices, including Purchasing.
