Construction Trades Board

Meetings

Meetings shall take place at least semi-annually in March and September and otherwise as necessary. Meetings are open to the public unless closed under an applicable exception as stated in the Maryland Open Meetings Act (State Government article, §10-508).

Composition

Nine residents of Caroline County appointed by the County Commissioners: two licensed master electricians; a licensed master plumber; an HVAC journeyman; a licensed home improvement contractor; and four members at large that are not actively involved in the construction trades. A permanent committee of three members shall be known as the Electrical Committee, consisting of the two master electricians and one at-large member. The Electrical Committee shall determine all issues of electrical licensing and examination.


Election

Candidates will be gathered with dual efforts of the board liaison and the Commissioners Office before submitting names for the Commissioners approval.   


Term of Office

Terms are set for three years, however, three of the initial members shall serve a term of one year, three of the initial members shall serve a term of two years, and three of the initial members shall serve for a term of three years. The board shall elect one of its members as its chairman and one member to serve as vice chairman. They shall carry out the responsibilities customary to those positions for a term of one year.

The Board shall perform all the duties and functions of the Board of Electrical Examiners and Plumbing Board and act as board of appeals as provided for in the International Building Code, the International Residential code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings, and the International Energy Conservation Code.
